Reimagining Community: How LGBTQIA+ Students Can Succeed and Thrive in Law School 2020

Wednesday, June 24, 2020, 1 p.m. (ET)

The law school community can serve as a microcosm of society, where diverse backgrounds and perspectives combine to further understanding of legal doctrines. Law school admission professionals from around the country value the identity and enriching experiences of LGBTQIA+ candidates as a vital, vibrant part of this community. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and turbulent political climate have created unprecedented challenges to the very notion of community. We invite anyone who may be interested to join us on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET for a conversation on “Reimagining Community: How to Succeed and Thrive as an LGBTQIA+ Law Student in 2020,” where a panel of current and recently-graduated law students will share their experiences and thoughts about the present and future of the LGBTQIA+ law school community.

Traditionally, LGBTQIA+ organizations, social events, and safe spaces ease the daily burden of navigating dominant cisgender heteronormative structures and groups. What does an affirming community in “social distancing” conditions look like for LGBTQIA+ law students? How have LGBTQIA+ law students adjusted to remote learning and overcome its challenges? What does remote instruction look and feel like in law school?

Furthermore, as current political challenges and civil unrest continue to evoke strong emotions and opinions, and we move closer to an intense presidential election, how do you have difficult conversations and navigate uncomfortable situations with those law students, faculty, and staff whose perspectives and philosophies marginalize the LGBTQIA+ community? How do LGBTQIA+ law students plan for possible disruptions in society while maintaining focus in law school?

Register below and join us on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET when we will discuss these questions and more and explore what it means to be a law student and an activist.
